Some thoughts on "Hell is Forever"

TW religion, conservative Christianity

Hell is Forever is a bop. Musically I enjoy it a lot. And It's definitley one I'll go listen to separatelyfrom the others on occasion.

But

It is also probably the song that bothers me the most. And it does not bother me in a way I like. I've talked about before, how I like things that poke at my beliefs and make me ask questions. This one doesn't do that. This song is like a buzzing fly to my inner-theologian, and I think I figured out why (Ironically it might also be one of the reasons I enjoy it)

So I've been working on some of my series type content lately, including my devos. I'm trying to make a series based on the Hazbin songs (if that is something you're interested in let me know in the comments and I will try to tag you when I start posting them). Naturally this includes Hell is Forever.

The thing about Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss is that by their very nature they include some theology, but a good portion of it is hellaverse-ified. Some of it is theology and some Christian lore. It's part of the draw. Here's the diffrence between Hell is Forever, and most of the rest of it: Hell is Forever addresses real Theology, more or less directly. I'd say more than, possibly, any other part of either show so far.

Now before I go any farther let's make sure we all have the same definitions so my meaning doesn't get mixed up.

Real Theology= Theology actually believed by a fair portion of people.

Good Theology= Theology that is grounded and has biblical backing.

Bad Theology= Opposite of Good Theology

So yes, Hell is Forever has Real Theology. Here's the thing that gets me though: I wouldn't consider most of it Good Theology. In fact I would consider most of it Bad Theology.

Now the thing with Theology is that our interpretation of it is flawed. We don't know a lot and we don't agree on a lot. That's why there are tens of thousands of denominations. But the particular brand we get in this song is what I'm going to call "Bible Thumper Theology." Not all Bible Thumper Theology is necessarily Bad Theology, but plenty of it is. But honestly I have three major issues with Bible Thumper Theology. First is that it's weaponized. Whether your Theology is good or bad, using it as a weapon is risky business. Second, it's often pretty weak. Even if the theological concept is solid, their understanding of it is usually surface level at best. And third, so much of it is just cherry picking.

So here are the main theological points I identified in Hell is Forever. I'm not going to go deep into them now, because that would make this already long post way to long, and because I'm already planning on making posts specifically on them.

Hell is forever (Obviously)

Eye for an eye Theology (I don't know what else to call it)

Justification by the law (or works)

Justified k1ll1ng (which is obviously super yikes)

Now there are few others in there too, but I'd say these are the main ones. As I said I'm plannin to address these more later, though the first one, I'm still waffling on whether I want to tackle that or not. The primary reason being that I do believe eternal damnation is eternal (as much as I wish I didn't), however I am not going to join the fire and brimstone brigade. There are too many of them all ready. If I do tackle it, it will probably be about why I take issue with the fire and brimstone brigade.

But yes all that to say, Hell is Forever bothers me because it's essentially just Bible Thumper Theology, and Bible Thumper Theology annoys me because it's what makes the church as a whole look bad, and usually it is pretty Bad Theology.

Honestly most of the time someone starts spewing this kind of stuff at me, I can't help but think "Have you read your Bible, or do you just believe what your pastor tells you?" Is my theology flawless? Not a chance (If anyone ever says their's is, approach with extreme caution, or better yet don't approach at all). I am seeking and trying to sort out what I believe. And I'm growing.

Ironically, I think part of the thing I like about Hell is Forever is that the people spewing the bullshit are the villains. I have too often seen them up on a pedestal.

so i received a pretty aggressive anon message earlier about the sanhwa scene in TNT... and i already deleted it because honestly i found it fairly offensive, but to that anon if you're reading this.... not cool. i understand that not all people are into m/m fic... but telling me it was ruining the fic and that i should have been clearer about tagging and warnings? it's genuinely been bothering me all day and kind of offending me. i write m/m pairings as part of my work all the time - you can see it in aurora, and definitely in my husbands series (fucking obviously).... and it's going to keep happening.

while i would never assume the real members sexualities (it's obviously none of our business), these are fictional characters and representations. they can be whatever i want them to be IN FICTION. if that offends you or troubles you or isn't sending the plot in the way you want, go find something else to read.

i also should not have to mark an m/m relationship in a fic with the same severity as a trigger warning. it isn't triggering, it's a relationship pairing. if you prefer other pairings, go elsewhere, but don't expect me to bend over backwards in my work on my blog to make queerness palatable for you.

this combined with some frankly rude messages on ao3 are just doing me in today. i understand that not everyone wanted to go down the woosanhwa road, but i wrote this fic for me and that's what i wanted. their relationship is meant as an intentional foil for yungi, the heats are supposed to be starkly different to help the MC understand herself and her feelings. y/n isn't perfect nor are any of the other characters and that's the fun of it. if you just want smut, find one-shots to read.

i just want to remind people that if you're writing comments on ao3, putting comments in your tumblr reblogs, etc., the author is going to read them!! be kind. if you don't like something, stop reading. your constructive criticism / helpful suggestions aren't necessary, they're rude. i'm not a published author, i'm a random on the internet posting fic for free, i don't want or need your negativity or your supposed help. you need to get a hobby or try writing something yourself.

anyways that's it. i'm kind of shocked at how negative a few of y'all have been given how overwhelmingly kind and positive everyone else has been. but i'm beyond shocked at the thinly veiled homophobia in my ask box earlier. what you said you said to a queer person and it hurt, and very quietly i'd like to ask you to do better and to not message me like that ever again.

I've been wanting to make this audio for so long. While I've left it ambiguous enough to be enjoyed as an original audio, this character is actually from my favourite musical 'Elisabeth das Musical'. It's a German-language dark queer historical romance where Death (Der Tod) is drawn to those who think about him, in particular it follows the life of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, and her son Rudolf. The musical does deal with serious mental health topics and some historical events from that time including the rise of fascism so please know that going in, but if you think you can handle such topics then I couldn't recommend the musical enough. 

The original 1992 Vienna production is on Youtube with English subtitles, that is my favourite production and means a lot to me as Uwe Kroger as Death is just... perfection to me, very much gender envy and has been a big influence on me and helped me with accepting myself and my gender expression, and his characterisation of Death as this genderfluid, pansexual otherworldly being is just beautiful. And if you enjoy then I'd also recommend the 2005 Vienna production which is also on Youtube with English subtitles mostly for the few extra added song and Serkan Kaya's performance as Lucheni.

For those of you in my Patreon Discord server, I streamed this musical last Sunday in there for you guys and it finally felt like the perfect time to bring this audio to life. And if Kronprinz is still around, I know you were requesting a Der Tod audio for a long time and I hope you're happy with this one. The listener in this audio series takes the place of Rudolf, but you don't need to know anything about the musical to understand these audios. I chose to present them more like my original royalty series audios as Elisabeth das Musical is not very well known outside of mainland Europe and Japan, so I hoped by framing it this way with a photograph of myself cosplaying Death from a couple years ago would entice more people who aren't familiar with the musical.

Because I get all that can be for reals distressing. otoh, it's my blog and I have things to say and I believe they are relevant and it matters in this moment to openly address these issues in spn fandom.

Also I don't enjoy talking about a ship I dislike. I don't go after wincest. I don't care. I don't hate it. It also does nothing for me and I don't enjoy it, bye. But on occasion, I'm going to have to mention it because of wincest lane behavior, the implications when shippers of an incest ship continue to target a queer ship and shippers of a queer ship.

They keep targeting Misha because of a queer ship, they keep demanding that a queer ship be silent and not heard, they continue the hate/bullying/harassment, concern trolling that fits basic 101 of antishipper behavior, and dog whistles designed to instigate more bullying, more hate, more attempts at silencing destiel.

Some conflict avoidant antidestiels will, at best, equate wincest and destiel and pretend they're exactly alike and erase all the differing contexts and nuances both for canon and for lane behavior, play "both sides are equally bad," then go right back to only bashing destiel shippers.

I think the discussion requires nuance from both sides, though.

I'm a fandom old and the way wincest shippers behaved in the 00's is nothing like what that lane became after the rise of social media. Modern wincest fandom has none of the restraint or mindfulness of early wincest fandom and they want their incest ship normalized, visible, and believe they are entitled to it. They believe they are the only fans who should ever have anything and the hatred has been non-stop.

There are also some things from the destiel lane that don't help.

Some destiel shippers knee jerk it and simplify it and it just hands wincest shippers more fuel to be aggressive.

Going at wincest shippers with "you're personally morally corrupt for shipping an incest ship SO THERE" and think they've won the argument and scored for Destiel are just adding to the mess.

So let me amplify this: What wincest shippers ship is nobody's business. I don't like the ship. I'm disappointed that the lane turned into the horror of antishipping tactics that it is. But they are also targeted with antishipping tactics. It's unhelpful.

But their behavior as they target destiel is our business.

The effective response to the hate and bullying from the wincest lane is to stand up to them, not attack their ship just for them shipping it. I'd suggest making posts on your own social media to speak out, rather than directly arguing, but each to their own.

The effective response to their hate and bullying is: destiel shippers have a right to exist and be vocal, destiel shippers have a right to ship, destiel shippers have a right to talk about the queer coding we noticed in the canon, destiel shippers have a right to point out that a queer ship should not be treated the same as a fanon incest ship and therefore wincest shippers should not be demanding lack of visibility and trying to hound destiel into silence, destiel shippers are spn fans, destiel shippers are not going to lie down and take it while wincesties stomp all over them for the 1000th time.

This is a sideblog created for art and fics for the Digimon/Pokemon Swap AU created by FireDragon1321 (that's me!). I decided to make a sideblog to make it easier to post about this mess of an AU since it got too big. This post contains all the info you need to get started.

What is the Digimon/Pokemon Swap AU?

Basically, Digimon is Pokemon and Pokemon is Digimon. Themes, characters, items, and even staff of the two franchises are switched thanks to a multi-dimensional reset. The AU has a project on Ao3 (project link here and artbook here), which will contain fic, art, and more. Basically everything posted here will eventually migrate there.

The lore heavily revolves around Electric Soldier Porygon, a Pokemon episode banned in Japan for causing epileptic seizures. You can read about it here (there is a gif of the seizure-causing animation frozen on the first frame- do not click the gif).

If the mere concept of this episode makes you squeamish, then this is not the AU for you. I found the lore of this episode interesting to explore (in some cases, it was the only episode to contain the information I needed). However- due to the real-world tragedy connected to this episode- I understand that its mere inclusion may be upsetting to some people.

Out of respect for the victims, this AU will contain no flashing lights. Posts with bright colors or patterns that may trigger seizures will be tagged "seizure warning", though I will try and keep those to a minimum. Posts with Zalgo text will be tagged both "zalgo text" and "eyestrain", and I'll keep the "craziness level" as low as possible.

Leak Disclaimer

The lore will contain references to leaked material for Pokemon. Note that I will never include material from unreleased projects. The instant there's a trailer that showcases the information, it's fair game. Also, beta designs have already been mentioned as early as the fic's prologue. But all beta designs that are under three generations old are banned.

I also will not share the leaked material I do have, and I do not have nor want game builds. So please don't ask for or offer me things. These materials will be used for the unreality/meta parts of a fanfiction and nothing more.

I'm just gonna post these both together and respond to it all at once. I had to chew on it for a while and I had a meeting, so I'm sorry I didn't respond to your first ask right away.

I honestly thought that person was being sarcastic. To me, it read very similarly to a lot of the things people were saying about the whole paraphilia thing from a few days ago, the whole "Right, because we should seriously kill people for kids they MIGHT hurt in the FUTURE" sentiment I saw a few people toss around.

But whether they meant it or not, whether they're seriously someone who holds this belief or someone mocking said belief, it's clearly ambiguous enough to hurt people regardless.

Posting that in the profic/proship tags (especially with no trigger warnings) was irresponsible of me and I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry to anyone I hurt, especially since I didn't give you any way to effectively prevent seeing stuff like that.

Honestly, I've been kind of skimming my asks for a few days, ever since the paraphilia shit I mentioned. All of that made me kind of want to vomit and I hated reading anything about it. Everything involved in that was kind of disgusting and there were several asks I genuinely couldn't finish. But...

I really don't like censoring or deleting the things people have to say in my ask box. When I created this blog, it was to post anything and everything I received, with no filter and no censorship (except for personally identifiable/directly targeted asks). Screaming into the void about silly fandom discourse and shipping two characters together. It isn't about which side has good or valid points or makes any sense at all, it's supposed to be cathartic.

I wanted to see what people would say when they knew there was no pressure or expectations to say one thing or the other, that no matter what they said, I'd still post it. Even if the content made me feel sick. Even if it were something I find genuinely immoral.

I completely understand why people wouldn't want these asks up, and especially why they wouldn't want it in the profic tags, which is why I've purged them all from the profic/proship tags. I'm also in the process of adding trigger tags to each post that might be triggering (formatted as "tw: *trigger*" if you want to block them). However, I've been posting things I don't personally agree with and things I genuinely cannot read all the way through, because I specifically don't want to delete anything anyone has sent.

I can delete the more aggressive asks completely and never answer anything like that again, but If I do that, I'll be deleting asks about my personal triggers as well. This means that asks involving discussion of incest, pedophilia, or necrophilia in any depth, real or in media, goes too. If I'm filtering out what people can send me, I'm not going to intentionally trigger myself anymore for this blog.

Or I can keep those posts "up," but with heavy trigger warnings. If I go with this, I'll put them under a cut as well so people have to read the trigger warnings and then click a button to see it.

but like i went through all the posts i could find and they never said anything bad about non con or dubcon she said rape fics were bad- and the point of her being a “hypocrite” for writing dubcon confuses me as why would someone who didnt support that stuff write it? it doesn’t make sense to me. i understand not liking her point on the kys bit but you guys got really hung up on it and completely missed the point of it about literal rape being romanticized and used as a fetish, not noncon and the likes used as a coping mechanism. it breaks my heart to see especially from people i supported and enjoyed a lot and got me into this community supporting rape. ive dealt with lots of sexual assults and have been raped myself a few times starting from a young age and let me tell you, its horrible. me and my boyfriend do get quite rough at times and do indulge in things like noncon- something that is used to cope and can help- and it is so much different than actually being raped. if you like it rough and dirty trust me girl i completely get it but actually being raped is the most demeaning, violating, and live devastating things that can happen- not to mention the other physical side affects of it. not trying to spread hate, maybe i should be for supporting it, but im more just sad? like seeing a community im so into and my biggest comfort character ( who also has dealt with rape) supporting and defending it all just feels like a betrayal and so debilitating. so many of my safe spaces have been ruined in a physical and metaphysical sense and it just reminds me of the sa when i was a teenager and other boys on my team (i was raped and abused by multiple wrestlers as i was the only girl in the sport in a very large state wide tournament hosted by my school) joking about it and making it not serious not taking me serious and sexualizing the whole situation and thinking i was lucky for a chick. just sickening and heartbreaking to see and the worst throwback thursday ever.

I- dub-con, non-con and CNC kink in fiction.

A- the place of these themes in fiction and how it separated from reality.

I think the line has to be drawn. A line people seem to forget too easily. Obviously, rape is a horrible thing. This fact has never been refuted in any fics or novels or books. No writer will ever tell you, ‘rape is awesome and soooo romantic’.

Fiction is absolutely fiction. We are aware of it. There's a big difference. This obviously something readers choose to read being aware of fiction. Being aware that the real thing is horrible. Warnings and tags are always there to avoid readers unaware of it.

B- the differences with other themes

One thing I've been asked is what kind of difference writing rape is from writing dub-con or even pedophilia?

On dub-con, the line is blurred. Softer, protagonist may be in a path where the sexual action is wanted but blocked by the mind or pushed to it by the other protagonist, forcing their own need to give in. It is still seen as rape as consent is not fully given. There's not much difference from non-con. Writers usually use this tag to avoid any triggers to people.

For pedophilia, let's see this in a more details. I think we can all agree that all these themes, dub-con, CNC, non con, always involve adults. Whatever it is the kink, or in stories, it’s adults. Adults who are aware of what sex is and what this kink it. Children should never be near any of those themes. It's not about kinks anymore, children don't have kinks.

II- the reality of voicing your opinion on internet

A- SA victims and SH victims, sexual shame

Now there's something we need to talk about. Writing theses themes are used by many as a coming mechanism. SA victims may often use these writings to help the aftermath of these events in their own life.

In the kink itself it's something that obviously causes a lot of shame towards people who are not part of it. But many things need to be said. It's a need for a control of a situation that is dangerous and traumatizing. It's a sign of truth with your partner. Fiction is a way to live that fantasy in full safety as they are clearly aware of the truth of that situation in real life.

Now the thing that has started this whole conversation was the ‘don’t forget to tell rape kink writers to off themselves’.

It is not a small detail. Not at all!

This is where fiction is separated from reality. You are telling a real person to commit a real act that could lead to fatal consequences.

Obviously I think we’re all aware that many people on this website suffer from depression, self harm tendencies and bullying. I do too. Your words matter. Trust me. We’ve seen it with Inquisitor’s death while a live TikTok.

Many other tiktokers who had helped not only spread rumors but bully the creator only realized their mistake once he killed himself.

This is a no turn back situation.

Do you think you have the guts to wake up in the morning, knowing someone killed themselves because they wrote something you were against? That you are the reason they died? Their families are grieving?

B- respect even through anger

We have established one thing. The internet is a wild, free universe. Anyone can say or write or post whatever they want.

You are free to voice out your opinion, anger amongst these binary and servers. But one thing that is not ok is the way you say it.

A point doesn't need to be full of hate or threats to be said. Especially when serious consequences could be blown by it.

Everyone has their opinion, things they don't like. You are free to avoid tags, not read, block people. Protect yourself first. But attacking isn't protecting yourself. You’re simply causing another kind of harm.

People need to own up to their words and actions.

If you tell someone to kill themselves, it's horrible. It's an actual crime. A full crime.

Opinion on the @/ demigod-jackhearth situation

Tw: The situation regarding Jack Hearth, CSA, SA, Chronic Illness.

I really don't want to be mean but can you guys please stop sending me asks or tagging me in stuff to do with this situation? I'm sorry , I know it sounds pathetic because I am an adult but I'm also a survivor of CSA and SA and this whole mess is taking a heavy toll on me because of my chronic illness.

I'm sorry, I know a lot of people look up to this account as the big brother of the Ares cabin, and I love all of you /p and I want to be there for you as an older figure in the community, but I just can't deal with this topic. It's close to home, it freaks me out and is just.

Stress makes my symptoms worse, and that's not anyone else's fault. It's my responsibility to manage but there's a reason I haven't made a personal statement on the situation. A friend made one on our group account. We don't want to be involved, I'm sorry. I'm very frail and as pathetic as it sounds, something like this can really weaken my immune system and take me out for days. Again, nobodies fault, I'm not blaming anyone for my health issues, I'm just trying to offer an explanation as to why I really really cannot be involved. The topic of victim blaming or people undermining the effects of SA, is a heavy trigger of mine. I don't like to interact with discourse around it. Even rp topics of it are iffy for me. I've recieved negative asks sending me death threats as my friend did include the @ for this blog in their statement on our group account. I dont want to be involved personally. I understand most of you are kids, and are upset because of how your friend feels, and that's natural. But you cannot be sending death threats or telling people to kill themselves. That's a legitimate cyber crime. If they did go through with it, it's highly likley their phone would be investigated and you could face severe legal trouble. And you'd have been responsible for the loss of a human life. Anon protects you from community identification. It does not protect you from being discovered by law enforcement or the tumblr moderation team.

Additonally, This is escapism for me. I dont want to get involved with drama right now. This account is about an angry middle aged man with too many kids and a swearing problem.

okokok, so I know you’re not in SnK anymore (i respect that bc i fell out of it in 2015 and came back like a couple months ago lmao) but i just want you to know I’m so glad I’ve found and read your fics. Good Enough to Eat is like my fucking ereri bible, every ereri fic i read I’m like :// “but would GEtE!Levi do this?” LMAO really when i finished reading every single one of ur snk fics i audibly groaned bc i thought that now i have to wade through the piles of really shitty ereri fics on the tag that have insane kudos (and I’ve already reread GEtE, which is my utmost favorite of ur ereri fics, twice already)

We haven't made any dsmp stimboards. I will if we ever DO make one, but we haven't. I'll talk more about this under the cut but TL;DR:

We will not be invalidating someone else's existence because of your discomfort. Asking for a trigger warning on someone's existence is different than asking for a warning on a specific stim. We will not be putting a tw on how people look, and if there are those things that make you uncomfortable you need to go through and filter it yourself in your settings.

Also anon, I am not upset with you personally, but this hits hard knowing that our existence has to be "palatable". Today wasn't a good day, and that's no excuse but it's not you I'm angry at, and I do apologize if it comes off that way.

The closest thing I think you might be talking about is the stimboard for the Ranboo factroject, in which case, I will not be tagging that post. I've been asked to tag it both as DSMP and MCYT now. Before anyone gets upset about this, feel free to block us, but our reasonings behind this:

That stimboard didn't have literally anything to do with the DSMP. Ranboo, the streamer that was used in that faceclaim, doesn't ONLY do DSMP or minecraft. That makes no sense. This stimboard had nothing to do with either of those things.

The Ranboo factroject was just that- a factroject. Void has nothing to do with the DSMP.

As anon mentioned in this ask, nobody can control their source. We do tag fictive sources from problematic sources, but this is a REAL LIFE PERSON that you want a trigger warning for.

You can go into your filters on Tumblr and block the word "Ranboo" or whatever else you want to not see without invalidating someone else's existence.

Not this anon, but a separate one asked for it to be tagged MCYT. Not only is that super vague, but Ranboo isn't known for ONLY doing Minecraft. He's a variety streamer. Plus, that groups in YouTubers that have done absolutely nothing wrong in with horrible people for no reason.

Asking for someone to be tagged based purely off what they LOOK like- because yet again, this has nothing to do with voids source- is bullshit. You don't ask people to cover their bodies because you don't like what they look like. Just because it's a factive doesn't mean this is any more acceptable. Thank you for being somewhat polite about this ask, but what you're asking for in of itself is gross. We won't put trigger warnings on how people look and things they can't change.

We don't care for the dsmp fandom, we aren't for or against it, we do not care. This had nothing to do with dsmp, and it won't be tagged as such.

For this anon (and the other one that asked for a tw on this), go into YOUR filtering and block words! You regulate your own experiences, and the internet is not a safe place. I will not invalidate someone's existence to regulate the internet for you, you need to do that yourself. If anyone needs help being shown how to filter content, I'd be happy to make a post about this!

So, to clear this up:

We WILL put warnings on SOURCES. This includes but is not limited to Danganronpa, the DSMP (when it is actually about the dsmp), Pico's School, any actual fictional source.

We will NOT put warnings on bodies. This includes physical disabilities, large or skinny bodies, etc.

We WILL put tws on specific problematic people if asked. For example, it would be fine if someone asked for a specific streamer to be tagged that did something wrong (for example, if someone needed tobuscus or dream tagged). Even tagging that feels gross to me, but I understand that those sources are problematic too and should be tagged.

We WILL tag STIMS. No matter how weird the tag request. We'll tag hands and water and stuff like that if needed!

We WILL tag sources on things that AREN'T for introjects. For example if a singlet asks for a character stimboard or something, I'd be happy to tag THAT, but I WILL NOT invalidate the existence of the very people I made this blog for to begin with.

Hope this clears some stuff up. Feel free to block us, and please, PLEASE, go to your filtering in your settings and update it instead of invalidating others.
